May is National Historic Preservation Month and the ideal time to spotlight some of the outstanding preservation efforts made in our community.
Sponsorship of the annual Preservation Awards is a project of Historic Liberty, the community's local grassroots preservation advocacy group. Liberty has honored local individuals, organizations and businesses for their contributions to the preservation of Liberty's historic character since 2005. Nominations for the 2010 awards are being accepted through May 1. A nomination form is available here or by calling 816.439.4537. Nominations will be accepted for the following categories:
Preservation Project of the Year for a major restoration, rehabilitation, or adaptive re-use of a structure or site completed within the last two calendar years
Outstanding Preservationist for an architect, designer, contractor, builder, or craftsperson for outstanding efforts to preserve an existing structure or enhance the character of a neighborhood through compatible new construction
Excellence in Preservation Advocacy for an individual or organization whose efforts have made a significant positive impact upon local history, heritage education, heritage tourism, architectural history, preservation education, or public policy.
